RIP Nest App for Wear OS

Google has never been afraid of axing products and services if the company deems them unnecessary. Nest apps allowed users to view notifications, control the temperature of Nest thermostats, switch to Home/Away modes, and more.

The apps for Google Wear OS and Apple Watch let you adjust the target temperature with a tap of your wrist, see notifications, and set home/away modes so your home would be nice and cozy when you arrived back from work.

We took a look at Nest app users on smart watches and found that only a small number of people were using it.

The subsidiary, recently rolled into Google's devices arm which has been rechristened as 'Google Nest', will be rolling Nest into the main Google and Google Assistant apps in the coming months, and the first stage seems to be killing off the old pre-merger smartwatch software. Moving forward the company plans to "spend more time focusing on delivering high quality experiences through mobile apps and voice interactions".

The only real losers here are Apple Watch users, who don't have a direct path to the same functionality.

Google further responded to the news publication saying that users will continue to receive notifications on their watch through the Nest app installed on their mobile devices.

We'd be upset, but yeah, apparently no one used this.

On a side note, 9to5Google points out that after the shutdown of the Nest app for WatchOS, Keep is the only remaining Google app available for the Apple Watch.
