It's been a long time coming, but the beloved world of The Big Lebowski is set to widen up. Turturro wrote, directed and stars in the pic, which the indie distributor now plans to release in early 2020.

'I look forward to working with Screen Media and bringing our work and the character of the Jesus to American audiences, ' Turturro continued. Though the Coen Brothers will not be involved, (nor will Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, or Steve Buscemi), the acclaimed directors have already given Turturro their blessing to continue the story.

The film follows, 'a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story, ' according to the official description.

The Jesus Rolls doesn't have a teaser just yet, but there's never a bad time to revisit its predecessor's trailer, should you need a reminder of Quintana's initial big-screen antics.

Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tauton, Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon and Pete Davidson also star. The original movie, a financial dud in 1998, earned a following over the years, and Turturro sounded confident he found an adjacent, not-quite-a-sequel way to revive the character. Before they know it, their journey of love transforms into "one of constant escape from the law".

The movie is described as partially a Big Lebowski spin-off and part a remake of the 1974 Bertrand Blier film Going Places. I had to tweak it a little bit but now I feel really good about it. It's basically an exploration of Jesus getting out of jail [after he is framed as a paedophile].

The film will also address those rumours, first heard in The Big Lebowski, about Jesus Quintana's supposed sex crimes (hint: he was FRAMED). Any Lebowski fans in here?
