Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) is an unparalleled master of disaster cinema.

If you're a fan of Roland Emmerich's slam-bang style of filmmaking, or would just like to see a spiritual sequel of sorts to Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor, then it looks like Midway might just be for you.

Clearly, he's correct. The trailer gives us a glimpse of an absolutely frantic Battle of Midway, filled with ships and planes and untold bullets.

Universal Pictures released a big budget epic version of the event also titled Midway in 1976, which starred Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, and Toshiro Mifune.

MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

According to the official synopsis, this is "the epic real-life saga about an undermanned American fleet and the courageous Navy leaders and pilots who triumphed, against the odds, over a powerful adversary". This ensemble action movie stars Woody Harrelson, Jake Weber, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Patrick Wilson, Brennan Brown, Ed Skrein, Aaron Eckhart, Alexander Ludwig, Nick Jonas, Tadanobu Asano, Dennis Quaid, Darren Criss, and Keean Johnson.

Starlight Entertainment Group and Providence Entertainment Limited are financing Midway. Bona Film Group will distribute the film in China.

Midway will officially hit theaters on November 8, 2019, joining an illustrious crowd that includes Wonder Woman 1984 (Nov. 1), Sonic the Hedgehog (Nov. 8) and Terminator 6 (Nov. 15).
