Sochi is a city in Russia on the Black Sea. It is known to many as a summer beach resort. Plus, it was made popular to the world after hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. This is a city that is also popular among tourists. Being a popular tourist destination, Sochi is a great place to be.

If you had not noticed, Sochi was initially meant to be the host of the 2019 International Boxing Association (AIBA) World Boxing Championships. The event is now scheduled to take place in Yekaterinburg, Russia. It will still run from September 7 to September 21, 2019.

By air, it would take you around 3hrs 20mins from Sochi to Yekaterinburg. So, you can still attend it while in Sochi.

But there will still be a mega sporting event in Sochi in 2019. So as you plan to attend this or any other sporting event, ensure that you prepare enough for the sporting event.

So, which mega sporting event will go down in Sochi?

        The F1 Russian Grand Prix

If you are a lover of the Grand Prix, be ready for an incredible showdown because this year’s Grand Prix is taking place in Sochi, Russia. It is expected to go down on September 29 from 7:10 PM to 9:10 PM. There will be a total of 53 laps in a 5.848km long track.

It will be held at the Sochi Autodrom, which is the fourth-longest circuit on the F1 calendar following Spa Francorchamps, Baku City Circuit, as well as Silverstone.  Over the years, the four races that have been held at the Sochi Autodrom have been won by Mercedes. The first two races were won by Lewis Hamilton, and Valtteri Bottas and Nico Rosberg won the other two.

In the 2019 F1 Russian Grand Prix, Sergey Sirotkin will make his debut on home soil for Williams. He will be the second local driver to race in any Russian Grand Prix.

Generally, Sochi is the only host city of the Winter Olympics also to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
