Next generation Google Assistant promises to be faster, more efficient

Not only do notifications switch from white to pure black, which is especially great for phones with OLED displays, things like the Android app drawer, notifications tray, and settings menu also get flipped to from white to black, or in some cases like on these demo devices, a shade of dark grey.

The expansion, along with a number of other announcements related to Android development, came at Google I/O, the annual developer conference held in Google's home town of Mountain View, California.

The list above is based on Samsung's traditional update policy, and the company's official list of eligible devices may turn out to be different.

"There's never been a better time to be a developer", Kurian said, citing new user interfaces such as voice and camera, cloud computing and Google Assistant's AI functionality. Flutter for embedded devices has already been used by Google to power some of the features on its new Nest Hub Max devic. Naturally, Google saved the best for last when it introduced a line of new Pixel phones created to be far more budget-friendly. Font redesigns and splashes of color also make the screen easier to read during all times of the day.

Google, in stark contrast to Apple, isn't typically obsessed about keeping new technologies it has been working on under wraps.

Google maintains the Android Distribution Dashboard for its developers to see what versions of Android are in use all over the world, but these figures are available for everyone to see. It will do this by making Assistant understand a user's personal preferences with usage patterns. The new features are expected to begin rolling out this summer. The driving mode kicks in when you say "hey Google, let's drive" or when you connect to your car's Bluetooth system. Perhaps tomorrow's event is just too jam-packed full of awesomeness to include Android Auto, but for whatever the reason, there's plenty of new stuff to talk about.

Another feature for automobiles includes controlling a vehicle remotely via Google Assistant. As a result, users can perform multiple commands simply by speaking.
