Gary McAllister recovering after unprovoked attack in Leeds city centre

A man punched McAllister, who also played for Liverpool and Scotland, to the ground by the assailant and needed stitches at Leeds General Infirmary, according to reports. Both McAllister and his wife have both given statements to police.

Following the unprovoked attack in the early hours of Sunday morning, the cowardly yob fled before cops arrived.

The former Scotland global was in Leeds on Saturday evening to watch boss Steven Gerrard play for a Liverpool legends team.

According to a source who spoke to The Sun, the former Scotland worldwide was left with between 10 and 12 stitches on his lip as a result of the attack.

Detective Inspector James Entwistle, of Leeds District CID, said: "We are investigating an assault that occurred in Call Lane in Leeds city centre at about 4am yesterday (24/3). He and Hayley have always tried to keep out of the limelight".

The attack on Gary comes after yob Paul Mitchell, 27, was jailed for 14 weeks after punching Aston Villa footballer Jack Grealish during a pitch invasion.
