Vancouver Canucks' Alexander Edler, left, checks Toronto Maple Leafs' Zach Hyman during first period in Vancouver on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.

"That one feels good", said Bo Horvat.

"They haven't been the most fun thing in the world, but it's part of the process", he said.

The Canucks posted only their third win in the past 11 games (3-6-2). Toronto is 32-0-1 when leading after two, and it was the National Hockey League last team to be ideal in that situation.

For a fragile team, the Canucks showed some resolve in the third that wasn't there at any point on Sunday in Sin City. "We have battled back a lot this year", said Vancouver head coach Travis Green. "What we do after a practice like this, if he's feeling good, we see how he's feeling in the morning and then we'll talk to our medical people and our medical people will tell us what's going on". Meanwhile, after just one game at home, the Canucks will play in Edmonton on Thursday before finishing off this week's three-in-four with a rematch against Vegas at Rogers Arena on Saturday.

Tonight's Leafs lineup will feature the team's two most recent acquisitions-Nic Petan at centre on the fourth line and Jake Muzzin on the team's second defense pairing with Nikita Zaitsev.

It's not that Toronto coach Mike Babcock has been underplaying his offensive stars; it's that the Maple Leafs are an excellent team with deep scoring.

What made the incident freaky was the response to Marchand from the NHL's official Twitter account (@NHL), which tweeted a GIF of Marner's mom, Bonnie, giving two thumbs up. I think it has made me a better athlete and a better goaltender.

Sutter has two more years remaining on the contract that carries a cap hit of $4.375 million per season, but his no-trade clause changes to a 15-team limited no-trade clause after this season.

While the members of Leafs Nation weren't very pleased with Mr. Murphy, Toronto's Morgan Rielly was able to forgive him for what he did after all was said and done. "But they had a lot of skilled guys and I just couldn't fit in". I "It's a little different because of the time I missed (with a groin injury in December/January), so I don't know how that will add up, but I try to get a little rest in and get Sparky in there as well to keep him sharp". Vancouver's workhorse centre, Bo Horvat, is playing almost two minutes a night more than the Leafs' John Tavares (20:59 to 19:03), and Brock Boeser plays almost as much as 81-point Leaf Mitch Marner (19:15 to 19:37).

Loui Eriksson scored at 2:21, beating Andersen with a backhand.

Ex-Leaf Josh Leivo brought Vancouver even at 4:13 as Auston Matthews served a Leafs bench minor for too many men on the ice. We saw it every so often in Toronto in the rare times Leivo was used by Babcock.

During the Maple Leafs last six games, winners of five, the Toronto offense has averaged almost six goals per win. "Going forward, we're going to look at it and be better at it", said Toronto's Mitch Marner, who extended his point streak to five games with an assist. "It's great seeing him do well over there".

Vancouver goalie Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves and Frederik Andersen stopped 29 for Toronto.

The Leafs scored two goals 34 seconds apart in the second period.

Morgan Rielly and Ron Hainsey had goals for the Maple Leafs, who lost when leading after two periods for the first time this season.

Of course, when Marner is killing penalties, that increases the chances of any Leaf on the ice scoring, no matter that the opponent is alleged to be at an advantage.

And so it was that Marner and Hainsey broke in on a two-on-one as Patrick Marleau served a hooking minor. Hainsey took the pass on his tape and popped it behind Markstrom. The assist was Marner's 11th point in his past five games. Defenseman Derrick Pouliout couldn't clear the puck from behind the Vancouver net and John Tavares picked it off. Tavares fed Rielly, who scored on Markstrom's short side.
