Energizer shows off phone with 18,000mAh battery

The P18K Pop is 18mm thick, which is, as our colleagues at Engadget pointed out, three iPhones thick. The phone's massive 18,000 mAh battery provides a battery backup of 90-hour phone call and will last 50 days in standby mode. The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop uses pop-up cameras on the front to eliminate the notch issue.

Remember the monstrosity we reported about a few weeks ago which showed off one of Energizer's 26 upcoming smartphones, the Energizer Power Max P18K Pop smartphone?

That is more than five times the capacity of Apple's iPhone XS Max, and more than four times the capacity of Samsung's unveiled Galaxy S10+.

Energizer is a battery-centric company, so it only made sense to go all-out for a smartphone with enough power capacity to choke a mule.

Scheduled to be out in June 2019, I was informed by the staff at Avenir's booth that the Energizer Power Max P18K Pop will carry a price tag of Dollars 599 (about RM 2435) although some earlier reports have stated that it will go for European Union 599 (~RM 2765).

The device's comically large battery attracted some scrutiny among Twitter users.

The Power Max P18K Pop will be priced at 600 euros ($683) and hits the shelves in June. In fact I'm not entirely sure there are enough people that want this phone that Energizer should really go ahead with a full production run, to be entirely honest - but we shall see! I'd like to think there is just 8 AA batteries under the case of this thing'. 'It's as if they took a portable USB power bank and glued a phone to it'. The battery maker is at Mobile World Congress showing off a thick phone that double as a power brick, or perhaps we have that backwards.

That being said, the camera on the test unit that I briefly tried sometimes refuses to come out although it is perfectly understandable for a showcase device that has been tested by thousands of people throughout the day. You get a form-fitting, slim-bezeled display, triple rear cameras (yes, triple) and even a motorized pop-out selfie lens, pulling a page from Vivo's Nex S.

Inside is a Mediatek Helio P70 with Android 9.0 Pie and 6GB RAM. At the back, it has a triple camera system with one 12MP sensor, one 5MP lens, and one 2MP shooter.

The 6.2-inch display features 1080p resolution and is nearly entirely bezel-less.

However, early tests of the device don't appear to be totally ideal.

The Energizer Power Max P18K Pop is unlikely to fit in your trousers pocket and it feels extra clunky, as well as heavy, when placed next to your face.

Additionally, despite its super powerful battery, The Verge noted that performance was glitchy and unreliable.
