Can You Spot The Glaring Error In This World Map By Ikea?

Mighty New Zealand is missing from an Ikea Björksta map and Kiwis are not taking it lying down.

He posted the picture of the map to sub-Reddit MapsWithoutNZ, a forum dedicated to collating the frequent instances where the country is omitted by careless cartographers.

Swedish furniture company Ikea is being ridiculed online for sharing a world map with a glaring problem.

The erroneous Björksta map was first spotted in a branch of IKEA in Washington DC in the USA.

"IKEA's map game is not on point", the Reddit user wrote.

The new megastore will sell 7,000 products and include a restaurant.

Twitter users have taken to the platform to share their horror at the mistake. "#New Zealand exists!", wrote an angry Auckland resident.

IKEA has since apologised for the incorrect world map print and has pledged to amend it.

The New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has yet to weigh in on this particular incident, but she took part in last year's map campaign, co-starring in a video with Flight of the Conchords' Rhys Darby.

"IKEA is responsible for securing correct and compliant motifs on all our products", the statement said.

Just last month Ikea announced plans to open its first store in New Zealand, in the city of Auckland.

It turns out that the map is missing New Zealand.

Other people have reported that the world population map in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC has lost New Zealand, while a wall map in a hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea - filmed by a YouTuber - looked like the South Island had fallen off.

With the Swedish furniture giant expanding to New Zealand soon, many were left wondering if the store would alter the map for Kiwi customers.
