Manchester City have become the first team to score a century of goals in Europe's top five leagues this season during their game with Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium. They defended deep and man-to-man.

Sterling, who had a strong penalty appeal turned down in the first half, scored the second when he dived to head in a cross from Sane in the 54th. If United beat Liverpool - ideal - but if United beat us the situation is the same.

"What we can do is beat United and then we are going to be there in the race but before that how many games do we have?"

Manchester City close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table back to four points courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Liverpool were able to consolidate their lead atop the Premier League this weekend with a 4-3 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It was City's 100th goal across all competitions and Fernandinho nearly provided number 101 with an unmarked header from a corner moments later, but City uncharacteristically failed to push on for more goals in an under-par first-half display.

City's first goal, a deflected strike for Danilo in the 18th minute, brought up their 100th goal of the season in all competitions before Raheem Sterling scored a diving header from Leroy Sane's cross in the 54th minute and Sane himself made it 3-0 with a calm finish just two minutes later.

Manchester United are now 6th the league, with 44 points from 23 games, having won their last seven matches in all competitions under interim boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer. "But every game teaches us and shows us what we have to".

"I'd prefer to be in Liverpool's position but all we can do is win our games so what should I say?"

"Before United-Liverpool I'll tell you more clearly but there are many games for both sides before those games".

"The boss said at half-time that we can't play the way we were playing and that we had to get better".

"That's why he woke us up a little bit to play our game again quicker, better and helped us with the spaces".

"We adjusted some things when we had the ball, without the ball we didn't suffer too much, even the long balls we won most of the time", he said. The first 15-20 minutes were the best minutes we played today.

"We didn't make passes in a row, we had to move it quicker".
