The scene-stealer will be looking to ply her trade alongside the returning likes of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, while the film's director Jake Kasdan is also back.

A sequel is in the works, and The Hollywood Reporter states that Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina is in talks to join the cast.

Filming on Jumanji 3 is expected to launch this month and could again shoot in Hawaii.

Kasdan, Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner penned the script. Matt Tolmach is producing the pic along with Johnson's Seven Bucks banner and Kasdan.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle brought in over $960 million worldwide, over 3.5x the worldwide gross of the original film from 1995, and became Sony's highest-grossing domestic release of all time (just barely passing 2002's Spider-Man).

Awkwafina had a big year in 2018, having appeared in popular movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean's 8. She also has late January's odd fantasy boarding school drama Paradise Hills and Chinese family comedy The Farewell, August's The Angry Birds Movie 2, and TV series Weird City.

In addition there is the undated semi-autobiographical Comedy Central series titled Awkwafina, which began production in mid-2017.
