Bianca Andreescu's start to 2019 is just getting better and better.

But the 28-year-old Dane squandered 10 of her 12 break points against Andreescu to make an early exit after an encounter lasting two hours 12 minutes.

"I've had a couple of back issues the past couple of months".

Andreescu was coughing throughout the match and also had to endure a brief rain delay while trailing 4-3 on serve in the second set. "I just fought for every point". Overall, Andreescu saved 83 per cent of break points.

Standing between Andreescu and her maiden WTA semi-final is another former World No. 1 and Grand Slam champion: Venus Williams. The defeat for Wozniacki marked the lowest-ranked player she had lost to since 2013.

Andreescu previously announced herself on the WTA by reaching the last eight at the Citi Open in Washington, 2017, where she upset then-World No.13 Kristina Mladenovic for her previous best win. "But I'm still searching for perfection and she really, really, really can hit the ball".

Before the season ended, however, she won two lower-level events in the United States, with $25,000 USA purses, to build some confidence heading into 2019.
