'And if he doesn't, he goes back to where he was enjoying anyhow'. "They've got a chance to show they are Man United players", Solskjaer said when quizzed about how he would like to leave a mark in his short stay of 6 months at the club. "I'm going to be myself".

"Of course, it's Michael [Carrick] and Kieran [McKenna] who have been here for the whole season".

"The players know they are in England". And he'll be glad he's in their dressing room when he returns here.

Solskjaer said: "The first thing is the first game". What I think i can improve them on. "I've spoken to Michael and Kieran about them all". You've got this squad - an awesome squad - we've got 23-24 players.

Solskjaer spent an ill-fated nine months at Cardiff in 2014 when the Bluebirds suffered relegation and were 17th in the Championship when the former striker was sacked.

"You play with courage, go out there and express your skills". We want to see them play the football they can do. The analysts were watching Cardiff this morning. It's great being back home and seeing the development already, because I played with Michael, how good a coach and man-manager he is already, so it's been really helpful. It's about us though, not the opposition.

Brazilian midfielders Andreas Pereira and Fred - a £50 million (US$63.2 million, HK$495 million) summer signing who has yet to justify that price tag - could also come in from the cold.

"We have to rotate". Everyone starts with a clean slate. You've got to start somewhere. "He carries himself brilliantly with the media, he promotes young players but most importantly he wins a lot of games of football. Everyone will get their chance".

While Solskjaer wants the job on a permanent basis, former United midfielder Paul Scholes told BBC Radio 5 Live that Pochettino would be his preferred option to become the club's next permanent boss.

With a new manager comes new ideas, a new playing style and most likely a new formation for the team. I'm confident. I've won the league, I've won cups, I've been relegated.
