ICC ultimatum to BCCI

"It is worth noting that even at the time of registration, no recognition or affiliation was asked from the government to represent India by BCCI and presuming it to be sole authority to govern cricket, without any sanction, the BCCI started to act as (the) governing body of cricket as well as representative of India".

The demand reportedly finds a mention in the minutes of ICC board meeting that took place earlier this year in Singapore.

The official broadcaster of all ICC tournaments, Star TV, had deducted all taxes before paying the ICC for the World T20 and the global body wants to recover the money through the Indian board.

According to reports, while former president N Srinivasan was at the helm of BCCI, he did not promise the ICC any compensation for tax deductions if they fail to receive a waiver from the government. The worldwide body has threatened that should BCCI fail to do the needful, it will deduct that amount from India's revenue share for current financial year. BCCI has maintained that it will not pay anything if ICC fails to share the minutes and if ICC deducts the amount, legal action would be sought.

"The ICC hasn't provided any minutes to the BCCI yet", The TOI quoted sources as saying. But the ICC, they said, haven't shared the same as of yet.

The CoA-led board is adamant that if ICC doesn't share the minutes, where BCCI has agreed to compensate for the tax deductions, it will make no such payments to the cricket global body. Is that what it has come down to? A sports body that has economic value primarily because it feeds on India's commercial stake in the game is telling India that it can not host a World Cup? "What a joke", the report further quoted a senior BCCI member as saying. And that too with an Indian heading that organisation right now?
