Paul Pogba: 'You do not have to be captain to speak'

"Jose Mourinho owes Paul Pogba an apology", Crooks wrote in his BBC column.

United are eighth in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Manchester City. They gave me confidence as well. It all began like that, from our training camp. "I was really determined".

And then in the second half, the boss took of McTominay and put Paul Pogba at centre-back - a move which has since been applauded by many pundits.

The 25-year-old midfielder played a big part in Les Bleus' campaign in Russian Federation, scoring a goal in the final as Didier Deschamps' side beat Croatia 4-2 to lift the coveted trophy. "That allows me to relay messages and have the chance to be heard", he said. Now say nothing, play football and walk out.

The World Cup holders take on the likes of Iceland (October 11) and Germany (October 16) in the next few days before the players return to their respective clubs.

Having joined up with France for their upcoming games, the 25-year-old was asked if he sees himself captaining his country in the future, and he responded by insisting that not all leaders necessarily wear the armband.

Hugo Lloris lifted the trophy in Moscow in mid-July as Didier Deschamps' captain, and Pogba said he would continue being an influential figure in the squad even if he never replaced the Tottenham goalkeeper.

"You don't have to be captain in order to speak, a leader is not someone who has the armband", he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. Pogba is still the same and is one of the best midfielders in the world.
