Seal slaps man in the face with an octopus

Kyle Mulinder, aka barekiwi, was testing out some new GoPro HERO7 equipment with some fellow kayakers when he suddenly got caught up an almighty fight between a seal and an octopus. After a fun paddle around the peninsula catching waves we spotted a giant male seal fighting an octopus.

I wonder if the more that kayaker gets of his new seal, the stranger it feels.

'Mate. what just happened?' gasps a kayaker, fairly understandably, after being slapped in the face with an octopus by a seal.

"He thrashed it in mid fight and my face happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time", he told Yahoo7.

At the end of the clip, Mulinder can be heard letting out a defiant roar amid a raucous response from his peers.

The original footage was posted to Instagram by Taiyo Masuda, one of a group of Go Pro content creators on the kayaking expedition.

The video shows a slightly stunned Mulinder after the quick face beating.

"Its famous for its wildlife - albatross and seals and things like that... but that s*** does not happen everyday!"

"Right around lunchtime, several seals started to swim around, we just thought they were refreshing their body, yet apparently they were seeking food", Mr Masuda told Reuters. The octopus subsequently attached itself to Mulinder's kayak and had to be pried off, according to reports.
