The series will explore a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. The series will follow the kids as adults, who are drawn back to Hill House after a family tragedy, with flashbacks to their childhood in the mansion.

The Haunting of Hill House premieres on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 12, just in time to binge-watch during the extended holiday of Halloween.

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its new horror series The Haunting of Hill House, containing pretty much every creepy horror trope you can think of.

The first film, The Haunting (1963) was directed by Robert Wise (The Sound of Music) and starred Julie Harris, Russ Tamblyn and Claire Bloom. It's considered one of the best scary novels of all time. It also stars Timothy Hutton, Michiel Huisman, Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Paxton Singleton, Violet McGraw, Julian Hilliard, Lulu Wilson, and Mckenna Grace - all of whom round out the young and older members of the family. A widely-panned remake for Spielberg's Dreamworks Pictures was released in 1999, direct by Jan de Bont and starring Liam Neeson (The Commuter) and Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) and featuring laughable CGI. That really bad dream?

The series has been created by Mike Flanagan, the man behind Netflix's critically-acclaimed adaption of Stephen King's Gerald's Game a year ago, and reunites him with Carla Gugino who starred in said adaption.
