Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, from left, Peter Dinklage, Conleth Hill, Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Jacob Anderson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Liam Cunningham, and Kit Harington pose in the press room with the award for outstanding drama series for "Game of Thrones" at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. That mark ties him with Aaron Paul, who also won three times for Breaking Bad.

"Thank you to my brother from another mother, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau".

Winning an Emmy is a big deal (unless you're Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has an entire house full of 'em), and I'm sure Dinklage is super excited to become just the second man to accomplish this impressive feat, especially since Tyrion didn't really have a ton to do this past season - don't hate, you know it's true - but Dinklage actually holds his own Emmy record too.

In the category, Dinklage edged out Thrones castmate Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (whom he called "an incredible, handsome brother"); David Harbour of Stranger Things; Joseph Fiennes of The Handmaid's Tale; Mandy Patinkin for Homeland; and Matt Smith for The Crown.

This was clearly a sentimental win for Dinklage since Game of Thrones will end after the forthcoming eighth season.

"Thank you, Erica, for putting up with me".

"It was very sad", Dinklage told the publication while backstage at the Emmys.

The 49-year-old actor went on to say that he was far away from his New York City home while the show, which films in Europe, was in production. "I live in NY and we shot the show in Europe, so many times I had to stay there and couldn't go home on the weekends and really developed deep roots in the community of Ireland and some of the other countries we shot in", he added.

"I'll wait hours", he said.
