Zach Smith was arrested after he allegedly abused Courtney Smith in 2009 while working as a graduate assistant under Meyer at Florida. I sincerely apologize. I was taught at a very young age that if I ever hit a woman, I would be kicked out of the house and never welcomed back.

"My words and demeanor on Wednesday did not show how seriously I take relationship violence".

When Meyer was asked what kind of "message" he'd have for Courtney Smith, his response left many stunned.

Meyer, who is serving a three-game suspension for his handling of abuse allegations and other misdeeds from former receivers coach Zach Smith, was criticized because he declined to address Courtney Smith during a question-and-answer session with reporters on Wednesday night.

During the news conference, Meyer also stated that, "The biggest regret is I wish I would have known more". "I sincerely apologize to Courtney Smith and her children for what they have gone through".

Urban Meyer head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes after the game against the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State won 31 to 20 on November 25, 2017 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In a press conference Wednesday, the university announced Meyer's suspension without pay through September 2, as well as for the first three games of the season.

If Meyer really cared about all of this, he'd sit and answer unlimited questions from the press now that everyone has had the chance to read the investigation's full report. "If I had known more, I would have taken action much quicker". Zach Smith was sacked last month after she asked a judge for a protective order.

Meyer said Wednesday that his loyalty to Earle Bruce - Zach Smith's grandfather and Meyer's coaching mentor - clouded his judgment in giving Zach Smith the benefit of the doubt in all of those situations. In 2015 Courtney Smith said her husband put his hands around her neck and shoved her against a wall.
