Rangers took the lead in the 53rd minute through their Croatian defender Nikola Katic, who headed home from close range after Osijek goalkeeper Marko Malenica failed to deal with a free kick.

Gerrard's side travel to Aberdeen this afternoon for what will be one of the toughest domestic tests of the entire season, playing a Dons side that will be motivated to prove they can challenge towards the top end of the table this season. All I've said to them is just focus on each game at a time.

There was an altercation between Scott McKenna and Morelos in the Aberdeen half. The referee, Kevin Clancy, missed the Colombian bumping into McKenna, and then flicked out with a boot off the ball.

Perhaps a red card was fairly harsh, but there is no doubt Steven Gerrard will be left ruing Morelos' petulance.

"They don't have enough to win the Premiership, but they have more about them than Aberdeen".

Bruce Anderson celebrates his equaliser with Aberdeen teammates.

Rangers conceded the first goal in 14 matches last season but gained 18 points in those games (W5 D3) which was the joint-best such record in the division (level with Hibernian). Clancy pointed straight to the spot but refused to impose any further punishment despite Windass' protests for another red card.

Lewis guessed correctly as Tavernier lined up his penalty but was beaten by the visiting captain's powerful strike. His side did at last force Allan McGregor into action just before the break as he darted from his line to tip away Niall McGinn's cross before Sam Cosgrove could convert.

"We dust ourselves down and take the positives from Burnley, and there were many of them - certainly in the individual performances from the players".

"However, for now, it is all about getting ready for Rangers".

Speaking to RangersTV after the game, Gerrard said: "First and foremost, I am very proud of my players - the players that started and the players who came on - the effort they put in to the game was magnificent".

"We have an issue with Ryan Jack now as well, so we will need to check on him".
