Her eccentric alter ego was the Solomon family's landlord, who often attempted to help them out with their love lives. She is credited on 96 of the NBC sitcom's 139 episodes.

Since then she appeared in a string of hit TV shows - including Seinfeld and Murder She Wrote. The quirky character was a loose and free-spirited woman, who was known for her many sexual partners, and often acted as a weird and unlikely guide for the Solomons in handling problems in their love lives. In recent years, she's fielded some voice roles, notably in Illumination Entertainment's 2012 adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax and, in her final performance, in Bethesda Game Studios' 2015 video game, Fallout 4.

Wendel began her career on the stage in New York City in both Broadway and off-Broadway productions.

Her daughter J.C. Wendel is also an actress.

"Oh @jcwendel I am so sorry!"

Actress Elmarie Wendel, who played beloved landlady Mrs Dubcek in Third Rock from the Sun, has died at the age of 89.

"She was raucous, funny, endearing, and terribly, terribly sweet", he wrote.

Wendel's performance as Mrs. Dubcek was just one part praised as a part of the cast of 3rd Rock From The Sun, the series which aired from 1996 until 2001. The show's primary location was her attic where her extraterrestrial tenants Dick, Tommy, Sally and Harry (John Lithgow, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kristen Johnston and French Stewart, respectively) resided.
