BCCI announces Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for the ODI series

Shardul Thakur has been named as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for upcoming three-match ODI series against England. He underwent the surgery in Leeds during his stay in England and has now returned home which is a severe blow to India who generally bank on him to bowl at the death.

The visitors started their much-awaited tour on a bright note by comprehensively winning the first T20I by 8 wickets.

Selectors call Shardul Thakur for England ODIs in place of injured Jasprit Bumrah. India will take on England in the 2nd T20I at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff in a bid to win their sixth successive T20I series.

Bumrah is now the number one ranked bowler in ODIs and his absence will come as a big blow for India. Thakur, who has impressed with his variations, will be crucial for India's chances in ODI series.

He has been replaced by Shardul Thakur for the ODI series - the Indians are yet to name their squad for the five-Test series which gets underway in August. "The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI medical team".

Bumrah suffered an injury to his left thumb during India's first T2OI against Ireland in Dublin and was subsequently ruled out of the ongoing T2OI series against England.

Shardul is already in England as a part of India A and played in the recently concluded one-day tri-series involving England Lions and West Indies A. In the four matches he was a part of, he picked up eight wickets, two of which came in the final against the Lions.

India are set to play three ODIs following the conclusion of the T20 global series againstEngland. The first ODI begins on July 12 at Nottingham, followed by the second match at London on July 14 and third match at Leeds on July 17.
