Twitter explodes as Aaron Finch breaks record of highest T20I individual score

His knock included a mind-boggling 16 fours and 10 sixes as the hard-hitting opener scored at a strike rate of 226.32. Finch fell short of the highest score in all T20s - 175* by Chris Gayle for RCB vs Pune Warriors - in the 2013 season of the IPL.

Behind Finch's two top scores, Maxwell is next on the all-time T20I record list after he belted an unbeaten 145 against Sri Lanka in 2016.

The Victorian superstar was eventually dismissed in a freakish manner, chasing a wide delivery and accidentally hitting his own stumps inadvertently.

He and opening partner D'Arcy Short's stand of 223 was the highest-ever global T20 partnership, with Short very much the silent partner with a 42-ball 46.

After toying with Zimbabwe bowlers, Finch told the host broadcaster, "It feels good".

Finch's innings helped Australia post a mammoth total of 229/2 in their 20 overs. The wicket played better than we thought. Yeah, I did know about it (holder of two highest individual T20I scores), it's just one of those days where few things went my way.

'I was captain of the opposition when Gayle got 175, so I remembered that record as well! The wicket is very good, so we have to bowl well too'.
