Chelsea have been quiet in the transfer market so far as they look to resolve the appointment of their new manager, but the Telegraph report that top target Sarri has already informed the club's hierarchy that he wants Napoli striker Mertens to join him at Stamford Bridge next season.

He impressed Man United supporters with a lively display attacking through the centre during Russia's thumping opening day 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia last week.

The Russia worldwide, who is now representing his country at their home World Cup, has been linked to Arsenal for some time.

Koulibaly seemed to confirm that Sarri would be the next Chelsea coach before any official announcement was made, and spoke highly of the Italian.

Manchester United have slapped a £100m price tag on Tottenham target Anthony Martial.

Chelsea are plotting a move for Juventus star Miralem Pjanic this summer, reports say.

Jack Wilshere has confirmed that he will leave Arsenal when his contract expires on 1 July. Wilshere said: "Following a number of extensive conversations with those at the club, and in particular a recent meeting with the new manager Unai Emery, I felt that I was ultimately left with little choice but to make the decision that I have due to purely footballing reasons".

Crystal Palace will offer Wilfried Zaha £120,000 a week to hold on to the Ivory Coast winger.

Chelsea had also considered Laurent Blanc and Luis Enrique, but Sarri has always been Roman Abramovich's preference.
