So, Sony's response to the outrage is essentially "there are enough people playing on PS4 already and even if there weren't, you can still play with people on PC and mobile devices".

The executive also commented on the possibility of services such as Netflix and YouTube coming to Nintendo's hybrid console, saying that conversations are still on-going while reinforcing that the company has wanted to promote the Switch as a gaming device above everything else. If you've never played Fortnite, you really shouldn't start on the PS4. Save on numerous Xbox One consoles, games like PUBG, as well as codes for free months of Xbox Live Gold. There could be any number of reasons why: Sony could be anxious that PS4 owners will jump ship if they can play with their friends on other consoles. But it's understandable, or at least not unusual for Sony. Many games don't bridge the gap between the PC and consoles, for example, due to their different input methods.

But the appeal of the Switch is that its portable nature allows owners to play when away from home, and so many have bought it as a second games machine. Even if you entirely disconnect your Epic Account from your PSN account, you still can't associate it with another system.

Trying to log into the Switch edition of Fortnite with an account tied to the PS4 produces an error. And for us we want to continue driving both of those platforms.

Out of all of the presentations at E3 this year, Microsoft's Xbox conference was the most talked about with 25% of social media mentions, easily beating rival console makers Sony and Nintendo who received 16% and 9% respectively. With... more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. It's believable that someone would want to play the prettier version of Fortnite on PS4 at home and play the Switch version on the go. Some gamers dropped a lot of money on in-game content for the PlayStation version of the game, and it's all locked down on Sony's platform - they can't access it on the Switch or any other version of the game.
