Overall, then, the new Z series phone is an improvement. Moto Display automatically adjusts the display at night for comfortable viewing. The display size is up considerably from last year's 5.5-inch model, without the need to add a notch.

Motorola has just unveiled the new Moto Z3 Play.

The most noticeable difference between the Moto Z3 Play and its predecessor is the edge-to-edge display up front. The launch event is scheduled to take place at 9:30 AM EDT, which is 7 PM India time.

Availability in other territories will be announced in the weeks to come. This price could be for the 3GB variant of the phone. The phone will be going on sale at a starting price of $499 (~Rs 33,400) and will be available to buy through retail stores later this month.

Google Lens is also integrated in the cameras of Moto Z3 Play. Moto Z Power Edition is expected to come with a battery Moto Mod, Moto Z Style Edition would accompany a style shell, Moto Z Gamepad Edition would come with the Gamepad Moto Mod, and the Moto Z Projection Edition would offer a 70-inch projector Moto Mod.

Having multiple days of battery life is an enticing proposition, though obviously that will depend on how you use the Moto Z3 Play. With thinner bezels on top and bottom, Moto Z3 Play offers more room for display.

The larger 18:9 display means the bezels have to be trimmed and Motorola has done just that. On the other hand, an 8MP sensor is expected to be housed at the front for selfies. For one, the fingerprint sensor is no longer on the front of the device, but instead pushed over to the (slightly thicker) aluminum side rail. Another big change will be a repositioned fingerprint sensor, which could be embedded on a button on the right side.

Included in the Z3 Play's box is a 2,000mAh battery Mod, which is why the European version will be called the "Power Edition". The phone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, which is based on the 14nm fabrication process. In terms of memory, Moto Z3 Play offers 4GB RAM with storage options of 32GB and 64GB.

The camera department has got an upgrade, too. And yeah, we have the dual camera module at the back with the trendy portrait mode and a baked-in cinemagraph feature. The company's latest two-lens solution combines a new 12-MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 5-MP secondary sensor, to allow for shallow depth-of-field tricks. A dual-LED flash is part of the package as well, with Motorola also promising the handset has no shutter lag.
