Vincent Kompany injury concern after goalless draw between Belgium and Portugal

But Tunisia (another of England and Belgium's World Cup opponents) had faced Portugal earlier this week and had posed a far greater threat than anything Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard could muster here.

Portugal's hopes, however, seem to rely upon the majestic talent of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

EURO 2016 winners Portugal will welcome the Real Madrid superstar back before Russian Federation 2018, but Belgium coach Martinez will face more questions about his tactics after a flat display from his hotly-tipped side.

The Manchester City captain was forced off in the 55th minute of the match in Brussels after appearing to hurt himself when lunging for the ball.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez told a news conference that it would probably take 48 hours to determine the severity of the injury.

Belgium have two more warm-up games scheduled, the first of which is against Egypt, while Portugal will head to Russian Federation after their final fixture against Algeria, but Martinez will be hoping for positive news on Kompany before naming his final 23-man squad.

"I can not be fully satisfied because of Vincent Kompany's injury but apart from that it was the test we needed", Martinez said, adding that Vermaelen at least appeared to be returning to fitness. He's not a young player, he knows his body.

The night was made worse by what appeared to be another injury to Vincent Kompany, who was withdrawn in the second half after stretching for a tackle.

Belgium began with their strongest possible 11, apart from the injured Axel Witsel and Thomas Vermaelen, and a trial three-man defence.
