Apple Pay expands to Ukraine and United Kingdom app-based bank Monzo

The bank has extensive details on how to set up Apple Pay on each device, but it's not really that different to adding any other card.

The bank added support for Android Pay back in October, and said the Apple Pay addition comes after months of clamouring from its customers, who can now use it to make purchases in store, online and in-app. Better late than never, naturally. The upstart bank, which usually makes a virtue of its community-driven approach and transparency hasn't been able to say (or even fully acknowledge that the feature was coming), likely because Apple imposes strict rules on the ways its partners communicate working with the tech giant. It can be done using Apple's Wallet app, or by opening up the Monzo app. Users then just need to follow instructions.

One awkward issue with using the Monzo card with Apple Pay is that transactions will result in two duplicate notifications, one from the Monzo app and one from the Wallet app. "Apple is famous for building handsome products with simple, intuitive interfaces. Apple Pay has been by far the most requested feature over the last few months, and we're glad that it's finally here".

What we do know is that - similar to Apple's iOS App Store when submitting an app - the Apple Pay approval process for a new bank partner is not for the faint-hearted. Now it is, though, so Monzo users rocking Apple products can use Apple's payment system to pay for things - whether that's with your phone, watch, iPad, or Macbook Pro.
