Hundreds of court employees wearing red shirts flooded the Supreme Court lobby on Friday, as the tribunal chose to oust its own head, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. She will retire in 2030. During the April 10 oral arguments on her quo warranto case, Sereno maintained she religiously filed all her SALNs, and vowed to present them before the Senate impeachment court.

"Chief Justice Sereno will be asked to leave the court room when the SC justices discuss the quo warranto petition", Te said.

Syquia is among those who camped out along Taft Avenue and Padre Faura since Thursday evening to urge the high court to junk the case seeking for Sereno's disqualification.

"We are going to stay here as long as possible to wait for the decision".

Meanwhile, some Supreme Court employees continued to call for Sereno's resignation by tying red ribbons on the gates of their office. "She will be the one to preside the en banc session since it is not the only agenda for that day".

"I think that will really ignite or add fire to whatever is happening in the [Supreme Court]. Hence, Sereno is ousted and excluded therefrom".

"We would rather focus our attention in making a plea, an urgent one, to the eight - for them to please do the right thing", Sereno's spokesperson Carlo Cruz told CNN Philippines' The Source.

With the Supreme Court ruling, the impeachment proceedings at the House of Representatives will be rendered moot, said Rep. Reynaldo Umali of Oriental Mindoro, chairman of the justice committee, in an interview.

The House justice committee, which conducted the proceedings based on a complaint filed by lawyer Larry Gadon, found probable cause to impeach Sereno who has been accused of corruption, betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.

The House was to vote on the articles of impeachment when they resume session on May 15.

The Supreme Court en banc is expected to announce the decision before noon.
