MARIAH CAREY is heading to Blackpool to headline the northern seaside town's Livewire Festival.

Councillor Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, comments: "This is absolutely fantastic news and we are thrilled at the prospect of Mariah Carey performing live in Blackpool".

Carey is one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold more than 200million records worldwide across her almost 30-year career.

Organisers had promised the "biggest act ever to play" in the resort.

She will be at the Tower Headlands Arena for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, on Friday 24th August. Further headliners are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The trio will be joined by fellow headliner Matt Goss from Bros - who sold out two nights at London's The O2 arena past year - and will be adding 80s vibes to the event held between August 23 and 26, with many more acts soon to be confirmed.

Livewire Festival debuted previous year, selling out its 20,000 capacity with a nostalgia heavy line-up topped by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, the Jacksons and "the Hit Factory Live" featuring Jason Donovan, Go West, Sinitta and more.

Mariah Carey - whose string of number one hits includes "Vision of Love" and "One Sweet Day", featuring Boyz II Men - has sold more than 200m records worldwide in a career spanning more than 20 years.
