Tennessee will pick up the fifth-year option on his contract, Titans general manager Jon Robinson confirmed Wednesday on The Midday 180 on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville.

With the fifth-year option picked up, the two sides could negotiating a long-term contract; however, those discussions likely won't begin until after the 2018 season.

The Tennessee Titans are taking a page from the "no duh" playbook.

The Titans selected the 2014 Heisman Trophy victor from OR with the second overall pick in the 2015 draft.

"Mariota's body of work far exceeds Garoppolo's", Arnold wrote.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently announced they had exercised the fifth-year option on quarterback Jameis Winston, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

He led the Titans to 9-7 records in 2016 and 2017, and the latter resulted in a playoff berth and a win in the Wild Card Round. Although, his regression may have a lot to do with the offensive system the team was running last season, which did not really play to his strengths.

"We're excited to have him around here for the next couple of years and hopefully after the next season we can start to figure something out to keep him around even longer".
