How to follow a blockbuster performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival?

Bethune-Cookman University, Tuskegee University, Wilberforce University and Xavier University of Louisiana will each receive $25,000 from the Grammy Award victor. One student from each school will receive the scholarship money.

If you're Beyonce, the answer is simple: Announce $100,000 in scholarships for four historically black colleges and universities.

Besides Xavier, the other HBCUs include Wilberforce, Tuskegee and Bethune-Cookman.

"We honour all institutions of higher learning for maintaining culture and creating environments for optimal learning which expands dreams and the seas of possibilities for students", Ivy McGregor, who administers the singer's BeyGood foundation, said in a statement announcing the scholarship. Applicants must maintain a 3.5 GPA or better and winners, which will be announced this summer, will be selected by the universities, the release says. The universities, which were established to educate black United States citizens before the 1964 civil rights act, will award the scholarships to the selected scholars this summer. Beyonce also has Creole roots, courtesy of maternal grandparents from Louisiana.

This scholarship, which was her first education award offered through her philanthropic BeyGOOD initiative marked the one-year anniversary of her visual album LEMONADE. The inaugural scholarship exclusively focused on females in honour of Lemonade's one-year anniversary. Established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, these colleges and universities were founded primarily for African American students barred from attending schools with white students under segregation laws.

Beyonce's April 14 performance at Coachella was themed as a tribute to homecoming weekend and college pride. Her electrifying performance has since been dubbed "Beychella".

It was the first time a black woman headlined the two-weekend festival, one of the biggest USA music gatherings of the year.
