The theme of the two day summit is "Towards a common future", with the focus on boosting intra-Commonwealth trade and investment, increasing cooperation across security challenges including global terrorism, organized crime and cyberattacks and helping small states deal climate change and other global crises.

President Maithripala Sirisena reached London last morning to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2018.

Despite attending this conference the President is scheduled to address the Commonwealth Business Council and is also invited to deliver the keynote speech on the conference regarding achieving sustainable development goals.

The UK will also fund a new Trade Facilitation Programme, supporting and providing technical assistance to selected Commonwealth countries in implementing the World Trade Organisation's Trade Facilitation Agreement. Ahead of the formal Heads of Government Meeting on Thursday and Friday, there will be three days of forums on Business, Women, People and Youth.

"The 2018 Commonwealth Trade Review predicted that trade between member states will be worth Dollars 700 billion by 2020?". The Commonwealth had the opportunity to work together to "remain vigilant of the destabilising forces" globalisation could unleash on communities, risking perpetuating the view that globalisation only benefited the global elite rather than leading to global prosperity.

The Chair of CHOGM until 2020 will pass from Malta to United Kingdom.

"This presents a great opportunity for Indian business to lead the narrative, whether it is in trade facilitation, seamless movement of professionals and visitors, skills to support new age employability, sustainability or small business", he said.
