Pakistan's Foreign Office has summoned the USA ambassador to Islamabad to lodge a "strong protest" after a motorcyclist was killed in a road crash involving an American diplomat driving an embassy vehicle.

It said Hale expressed his sympathy and sadness over the loss of life and assured cooperation in the investigation.

Few details about the accident were available and there was no word of any charges being filed.

Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, Defence and Air attache at the US Embassy, has run down three persons in Daman-e-Koh, north of Islamabad.

Police official Shafi Ullah said the US diplomat was not arrested because he has immunity under worldwide law.

The U.S. Embassy released a statement on Sunday expressing "deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and those injured in a tragic traffic accident involving a U.S. Embassy vehicle".

"Embassy officials are cooperating with local authorities who are investigating the accident", it added.

A youth was killed and two others sustained injuries when the United States military attache's auto collided with a motorcycle in the federal capital on Saturday.
