After losing the opening game in Tampa, the Red Sox have now rattled off six straight wins. He needed just 74 pitches for the same results last week. For someone that has struggled to earn the trust of Red Sox fans since signing in Boston in 2016, Price is well on his way to winning back the fans.

"I know I'm going to have good days, bad days, frightful days, I know that. When you win, anything is fine".

It was a cool moment, but the game was just as fun. "But unfortunately they've got us four times and we only got them once".

Hanley Ramirez roped a line drive to the right-field wall to score Jackie Bradley Jr. from third and send the remaining fans of a sold-out crowd home happy nearly four hours after the 2:05 p.m. start.

Kittredge intentionally walked Mookie Betts and then, after he took second, walked Andrew Benintendi on to load the bases.

Mark Frederickson lives in Southern Maine now, but he grew up in Topsfield in a family that loved the Red Sox. Mahtook took third on Dixon Machado's groundout and scored on Martin's grounder to second base for an 8-7 lead, the Tigers' first of the game.

"That warmed me up a little bit", said Ramirez after sprinting around the field before his teammates caught him following the game-winner that capped the 3-hour, 55-minute contest played in "feel-like" temperates in the low 30s. "I made good contact".

Price got his 2018 campaign off on a great note last Friday with seven shutout innings against the Rays, allowing just four hits while striking out five.

But the lefty has already done wonders to rebuild his reputation this season with 14 scoreless innings over his first two starts. Their decision was to let bygones be bygones and give the guy a rousing standing ovation.

"The good thing", Cora said, "is we haven't played our best baseball". I didn't want to tip my cap, because that would kind of take myself out of the game, I feel like. All the sudden he fell into a groove and he gave us seven (innings).

The collection of starters are also clearly doing a good job of keeping their opponents off-balance, leaning less on the fastball more than all but eight starting staffs, while coming in with only the 19th-highest average fastball velocity. He used his breaking ball, had a good fastball.

The Rays haven't won — and the Red Sox haven't lost — since.

Price became the first pitcher in the last 100 years with 7-plus scoreless innings pitched and four or fewer hits in each of his first two starts of a season.

The Boston hitters are putting up 3.5 runs per contest so far this season and the team's hit.239/.314/.359 to begin the year. An intentional walk to Rafael Devers and an infield hit by Eduardo Nunez loaded the bases for Bradley. Opting not to step on second for the force out, second baseman Daniel Robertson threw to first and beat Bradley by a split-second; after a challenge by Cora - with the crowd cheering the replays on the scoreboard - the call stood. So, instead of Bogaerts scoring the winning run, it was time for extra innings. Two more groundouts later, Chirinos was out of the inning.

Trailing 2-0 in the ninth, the Red Sox rallied to tie it off closer Alex Colome.

David Peralta had two hits and two RBIs and left-hander Robbie Ray struck out nine in six innings as Arizona spoiled St. Louis' home opener. But he was stranded at third as Rays starter Yonny Chirinos got three infield outs to end the inning.

Ramirez singled in one run, J.D. Martinez grounded into a double play and then Xander Bogaerts doubled over the outstretched glove of left fielder Mallex Smith against the Green Monster to tie it. Boston loaded the bases before Bradley hit a grounder toward second.
