This will be his maiden foreign trip after assuming the office on February 15 and will be in line with the tradition of Nepali PM visiting India first.

While congratulating Oli over phone upon his appointment to the top executive post last month, Prime Minister Modi had extended an invitation to him for a visit to India.

Oli, who had publicly criticised India for interfering in Nepal's internal affairs and accused it of toppling his government in the past, had pledged to forge a new partnership with New Delhi after his electoral victory. Mr. Oli's predecessor, Sher Bahadur Deuba, visited India in the winter of 2017.

Asked if any agreements were expected to be signed during the visit, sources said the two countries were in touch in this regard. "The focus of the visit will be on economic and developmental aspects of the will be a business-like visit, " they added.

Prime Minister Oli will be accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya and will be accompanied by a high-level delegation.

"During the visit, Prime Minister of Nepal will call on Rashtrapatiji and Vice President of India, and will hold talks with Prime Minister of India".

The Left Alliance of the CPN-UML, led by K P Sharma Oli and CPN-Maoist Centre, led by Prachanda, had in December secured 174 seats in the 275-member Parliament in the historic provincial and parliamentary polls.

The strategically important district of Nepal bordering China has the nearest Chinese market, Hyazimang and the nearest crossing point for Tibet to China, situated at an elevation of 6,495 metres.

India has been prodding Nepal to make the new statute inclusive and broad-based in approach.
