The windows were covered with blankets and a sunshade, the station reported. Officers opened the van to find four deceased individuals inside - a man, a woman and a young boy and young girl.

Officers were sent to 12031 Brookhurst St. shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate "a suspicious vehicle" parked in the lot, authorities said. The causes of death would not be determined until toxicology tests are completed, which could take days, he said. Foul play was not suspected.

It appeared the victims had been in the vehicle for a day or two based on the condition of the bodies, Whitney said.

Garden Grove police detectives said they have spoken with relatives of Kanyavong who told them they believe the woman and the children are his girlfriend and the couple's two children.

'It could have been a tragic accident.

Both children appeared under the age of 2 and were still in diapers, he said. They had been living in the parking lot for about a month, he said. We don't know exactly what happened so we have to investigate this, ' he said.

The time and cause of death is still under investigation.

"She said she's seen this van here in the parking lot before and believed that the family that was in the van may be homeless or in between places", police Lt. Carl Whitney said.

A clerk at the CVS store declined to comment early Friday.

The strip mall - which also has a tea house, shoe store, pizza shop and mobile phone retailer - is located at a busy intersection in the city of 175,000 people.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Garden Grove police at 714-741-5704.
