Winter storm to bring plowable snow

This winter's snowfall totals so far sit around the annual average at this point for the major Northeast hubs of Boston, New York and Philadelphia, according to the National Weather Service. Total snow accumulations of around 6 to 12 inches, with localized amounts up to 18 inches, are possible.* WHERE.Portions of northern CT, western, central, eastern and southeastern MA, as well as all of Rhode Island.* WHEN.From Monday evening through Tuesday evening.

The culprit is a low-pressure system developing off the North Carolina coast sometime Monday, which will head north as the wind carries it toward New England - hence, the nor'easter.

Mr. Hurley said the wind won't be as strong or as long-lasting as it was during the other recent storms, so he didn't expect to see as many power failures. Cold winds out of the north will likely cause precipitation to change over to snow that could bring 1-3 inches rather quickly.

Heavy wet snow will develop late Monday night into Tuesday, tapering off Tuesday night. "It's too soon to tell", Hawley says.
