Villarreal defender Rúben Semedo has been arrested by the Civil Guard on charges of aggravated burglary and holding a person against his will, according to a report in Valencia local daily Las Provincias.

While Spanish daily Marca claim a gun was discovered in a night-club he has in his own personal basement.

For the third time in the past four months, Ruben Semedo has found himself in trouble with the law.

"His family and I are by his side to help him overcome this moment".

Villarreal and Portugal Under-21 worldwide Ruben Semedo is reportedly arrested for tying up, hitting and holding a man inside his house before committing theft.

Villarreal later issued a statement saying they had opened disciplinary proceedings against the player to investigate what had happened.

Semedo joined the club in a €14 million transfer from Sporting Lisbon in the summer.

Semedo is alleged to have carried a firearm at a nightclub in Valencia in November, and smashed a man over the head with a glass bottle in a separate incident.

For the latter crime, the local prosecutor is pushing for two years in prison.

As of right now, it seems incredibly unlikely that Semedo could feature for Portugal in the World Cup, as he'll have more important matters to deal with.
