But Kamal Haasan has refuted the rumors saying that it was just a friendly meeting before he kick-started his political campaign tour.

Haasan's remarks came a week after he suggested that any political alliance with Rajinikanth is unlikely if the latter's colour is "saffron", in an apparent reference to the BJP.

"It is a courtesy call". However, before any theory was scrutinised, Haasan informed the reporters that meeting Rajini was a mere "courtesy call".

On questions whether Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth will tie-up, Haasan said, "Only time will tell about us joining hands". Meanwhile, Kamal raised various speculations again by having a formal meet with Rajinikanth at his home in Poes Garden.

Rajinikanth told the media that Kamal Haasan "wants to serve the people of Tamil Nadu". He added that he will pray for Kamal's success in politics.

When asked if the duo was to enter into a partnership, Hassan, the national-award-winning actor said, "Only time will tell".

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have worked in several films together back in the 1970s and over all these years, they've maintained a healthy friendship. "We are good friends but politics is different".

The actor-turned-politician, who is set to announce his party and its guiding principles this month, believes Hindu extremism is a threat and he can not just keep complaining about it. Rajinikanth, who had announced that he would follow "spiritual" politics, today said his "style" was different from Kamal Haasan's, "even in movies" indicating that he would cut his own path in politics. "They are with me for the past 37 years". Our general intent may be the good of the people. He came to invite me for the launch of his party.

The star will address a series of meetings, beginning his political tour from former President APJ Abdul Kalam's residence in Rameshwaram. He will announce the name of his party and unveil the party flag at a public meeting in Madurai on the same day.
