Ice Cricket 2018: Shahid Afriidi's Royals beats Virendra Sehwag's Palace Diamonds

St. Moritz Ice T20 Cricket Tournament 2018: Virender Sehwag, Jacques Kallis, Shoaib Akhtar in Teams of Key Legend Players to Play in Switzerland! The 39-year-old hit 74 runs off 34 deliveries to guide Afridi's Royals to a comfortable victory with 28 balls remaining.

The two teams are facing each other in the unique two-day event where two matches are to be played on ice.In the first match, Royals won by six wickets and chased the target in 15.2 overs.

Several retired cricketers, including India's Ajit Agarkar and Ramesh Powar, Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, South African Graeme Smith and Pakistani Shoaib Akhtar, are taking part in the two matches. He smashed four boundaries and five long sixes on the unconventional ground covered with thick ice.

Andrew Symonds impressed with a 40-run knock, while India's Mohammad Kaif and Joginder Sharma contributed 19 and 18 runs respectively in a line-up that saw five batsmen being dismissed for a single-digit score on ice.

In reply, Diamonds lost Graeme Smith (23) and Matt Prior (8), but Shah batted brilliantly in the company of Jacques Kallis (36). The Diamonds, batting first, gave a target of 165 for the loss of nine wickets. But it was Owais Shah who proved to be a match victor for Royals and give Shahid Afridi a lead in the two-match tournament.

A second match is scheduled for Friday. Cricket on ice has been played in St. Moritz by amateurs since 1988 but it is the first time that greats of the game have graced the Alpine resort.

Skipper Sehwag was the pick of the batsmen for the Diamonds with a score of 62 from 31 deliveries.
