However, Corina did openly lament that Wood's ex-husband and silver screen icon Robert Wagner has refused to cooperate with investigators.

Wood's sister Lana, 71, said she was pleased after Wagner was named a "person of interest" in her "suspicious" death.

As a result of their efforts, new witnesses were identified in 2011 and 2012, and thus, detectives were able to piece together a timeline of the weekend's events prior to Wood's death. The sheriff's office issued a statement Thursday noting this is still a suspicious death investigation and that there is not enough evidence to make an arrest. The next day, the actress was found floating in the water wearing a red down jacket and flannel nightgown. "He was the last person with her on the boat, arguing", Corina said of the Hollywood couple.

Corina did not explain why anyone who might know something didn't come forward in 1981 or in 2011, and whether that failure might undermine their credibility all these decades later.

The special featured interviews with unidentified witnesses who backed up the boat's captain Dennis Davern's longtime claim that Wagner and Wood were fighting the night that she drowned.

"We would love to talk to Robert Wagner", Corina explained, adding that the actor's story doesn't "add up to what we've found". They divorced in 1962 and Wood later married British producer Richard Gregson and gave birth to a daughter, Natasha, in 1970.She and Gregson split the following year, she reunited with Wagner in 1972 and they remarried.Wood gave birth to their daughter Courtney in 1974. Shortly after that, separate witnesses who were on a boat that was in the water nearby, heard a man and woman arguing on the back of the boat and believe the voices were those of Wood and Wagner, Corina said.

Investigators initially ruled the death accidental. Later that night, Wood left the boat with Davina and booked them both hotel rooms nearby, but made a decision to get back on the boat the next day, according to the report.

However, Wood said in previous statements that she was terrified of the water.

Lt Corina said that their greatest challenge was the passing of years, and described the appeal for information as a final attempt to solve the case.

"They're very credible. They have no reason to lie", Corina told Moriarty. If not, it may be the end of the investigation, a Los Angeles County sheriff's official said Monday.

"Our biggest challenge is time", he said. Wood's autopsy revealed fresh bruises that, as Det. "Natalie, to this witness, appeared to be the aggressor in the argument, appeared to be intoxicated", Hernandez told CBS.

5) Investigators aren't calling Wagner a suspect.

There have always been rumors of foul play surrounding Wood's death. "I can swim a little bit, but I'm afraid of water that is dark". That's when he was told to go away by Robert Wagner.... Walken has spoken with police. Unfortunately, a lot of people in the present tend to remember Wood because of her death at the age of 43, which is being investigated at the moment.
