Veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) referee Mario Yamasaki has had his fair share of bad calls and slip-ups throughout his career, but his most recent blunder of waiting too long to stop the fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Priscila Cachoeira was the last straw for the company's president, Dana White.

Cachoeira receives medical attention.

Shevchenko eventually ended the fight near the end the second round with a submission, using the rear naked choke hold to make Cachoeira tap out.

Fighters, MMA journalists and even pro wrestlers took to Twitter in the immediate aftermath of the fight to express their outrage at Yamasaki's inaction.

Her opponent now a bloody and dazed mess, the Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian warrior slipped into full mount and unleashed a bombardment of punches that, to the dismay and anger of many, did not compel Yamasaki to step in and stop the fight.

"Fighters go through times of hard effort and dedication to be there".

"About other people's opinions, it's their right to say".

With the victory, Shevchenko, a former bantamweight contender (15-3, 4-2 in UFC), seems poised for a title fight in the naiscent division. An array of truly terrifying elbows from Shevchenko warranted Yamasaki's intervention, and yet the bout was allowed to continue until the klaxon sounded for the end of the first five minutes. Many observers felt the fight should have been stopped well before then, as Shevchenko hurt Cachoeira badly with strikes.

Ref Mario Yamasaki has shared his side of the story following a disastrous performance at UFC Belem.

. Another unfortunate thing is that i can't do anything about I️t only the Brazilian commission can and i am hoping after this scary, incompetent showing he hopefully will never set foot in that Octagon again. This garnered a ton of hate for Yamaski on social media from the likes of White, Chiesa, and fans.
