Valencia are allegedly prepared to bring Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata back to the club on a free transfer in the summer window.

The Spaniard has turned out to be a shrewd signing for United since he arrived from Chelsea but his time at Old Trafford could be about to come to an end with Alexis Sanchez poised to arrive at the club.

Mata, off contract in June, has been linked with his former club amid claims he would welcome a return to Los Che. The Chilean's arrival would see the Spaniard fall down the pecking order and at his age, he certainly needs regular first-team football to keep up his agility.

Mundo Deportivo use the fact that Mata has featured for Manchester United in their last eight games to show that he is no hurry to leave England.

Mata, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and, though United have the option to extend his stay by another 12 months, it's understood they are yet to do so.

With just five months left to run on his current contract, United know they will not be able to charge a big fee for the man the signed for £37.1million from Chelsea four years ago.

So a potential deal could be in the offing as soon as Sanchez is confirmed in Manchester.

It would also be a transfer that makes sense when all things are considered given that Mata isn't a player that seems to fit into Jose Mourinho's new tactics at United.
