The first trailer for the remake of Overboard is finally here, and while the original is an indisputable classic, this new spin on the film looks to be a downright nautical delight.

The first trailer for the upcoming Overboard remake starring Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez has been released!

The original, 1987 flick is laugh-out-loud amusing and a total screwball romantic comedy, in which Goldie Hawn plays a wealthy socialite opposite her IRL love Kurt Russell, who plays a carpenter working on her yacht.

The footage shows Faris - a single mother struggling to make ends meet - picking up a carpet cleaning gig on the yacht of a millionaire, played by Derbez, who treats her abusively and tosses her rented cleaning equipment overboard. The twist in the 2018 version is that it's a gender-swap, meaning the man, Eugenio Derbez's Leonardo, will fall overboard, get amnesia and be tricked by Anna's Kate. After a rough start, he eventually earns the respect of his new "family", but his real kin are hot on their trail. I don't know that this quite fixes the problematic nature as the film intended, but they do attempt to ensure it's clear the idea to do this came from Faris's character's best friend played by Eva Longoria, who is also of Mexican descent, because that helps, I guess? MGM and Pantelion open the redo from 3Pas Studios on April 20.
