Banned England cricketer Ben Stokes finally found some form while playing in New Zealand as he smashed 93 in Canterbury's domestic Twenty20 match against Otago in Christchurch on Thursday.

Stokes struggled to score runs in the one-day competition, managing only 36 runs in 3 games for Canterbury so far.

Playing for Canterbury against Otago in the Super Smash, Stokes belted 93 off 47 after coming in at four.

After a spate of batting woe - he was run out after just one ball on Sunday and scored only two the weekend previous - the 26-year-old smashed six fours and seven sixes in his innings.

Chasing 218, Otago got off to a poor start and got all out with just 83 runs on the board.

Stokes then returned 1-17 from his two overs in the reply as Otago crumbled to 83 all out, giving Canterbury victory by a mammoth 134 runs.

Stokes is still waiting to discover if he is to be charged over an alleged assault in Bristol in September.

The Crown Prosecution Service is assessing evidence from Avon and Somerset Police in order for a decision to be made on whether he should face charges over the alleged incident.
