They've got big plots, big guest stars and usually a bit of Christmas fun along the way.

Mark Gatiss as The Captain looks sharp and alert as ever as he is shown inside a retro TARDIS set that looks like it belonged to the first doctor.

Christmas is only more than two weeks away, and so is the holiday special of "Doctor Who" that will be airing on BBC One on December 25.

It's a foreboding exchange between Bill Potts (Mackie) and the Doctor (Capaldi), as he faces his latest and most trying adventure yet - dealing with his past self. Joining them is Pearl Mackie as Bill as they discuss matters surrounded by odd apparatus and knick-knacks scattered inside the brightly-lit TARDIS.

Although short, the trailer packs in a lot - shots of creepy glass monsters, jokes about the sonic sunglasses (they work indoors, don't you know), and yes, the Twelfth Doctor working with his former self, now in the form of David Bradley. There will be a lot of goodbyes this Christmas. Immediately following "Twice Upon A Time", BBC and BBC America will air an all-new special titled, Doctor Who: Farewell to Peter Capaldi. Capaldi is exiting the role to make way for 13th Doctor Jodie Whitaker, who will become the first woman Doctor.

To add further anticipation, the BBC has just released a new 30-second teaser for "Twice Upon a Time". As we mentioned earlier, the special event will see Peter Capaldi's Doctor regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. She'll also be joined by new showrunner Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) as he takes the reins from Moffat. The yuletide episode will be airing at 5:30 p.m. United Kingdom time on BBC One on Christmas day. Check out the teaser below.
