With the club at a fairly protracted low ebb, AC Milan have rung the changes this morning by sacking Vincenzo Montella and installing Gennaro Gattuso as temporary head coach.

Vincenzo Montella has been sacked by AC Milan following their poor start to the season.

However Montella failed to live up to those expectations and the club now sit in seventh, 18 points behind league leaders Napoli.

During a trophy-laden playing career, Gattuso also won the World Cup with Italy, and was inducted into the Milan Hall of Fame in 2009.

He has been working within the AC Milan structure as youth team coach.

Milan, who spent over €200 million in the summer, have now placed their former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso in charge of the first team as they try to rescue their season. "Technical management is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his position as a Primavera coach, and to whom we address the most warmest wishes of good work". The decision comes after they were held to a goalless draw by Torino at the weekend.

Milan finished sixth in Serie A last season, a point and a place above rivals Inter, but although the club made 11 major signings in the transfer window, including Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva and Andrea Conti, results have been poor. "The fans don't need to worry".
