The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind in London and the South East region.

The strong winds and heavy rain will also affect large parts of the rest of the UK.

The alert is valid between 9pm this evening through to 9am Thursday morning.

It is predicting westerly winds and gusts of 40 to 50mph and in some areas 60mph.

Travel delays and general disruption were predicted as low pressure crosses the north of the United Kingdom and brings strong winds that could affect the Midlands, mid Wales, North Wales, the north-west, Yorkshire and East Anglia.

The Met Office added: "In addition, rain will be heavy at times, especially over north west England and North Wales".
