Evergreen spinner Rangana Herath spun the tourists to a sensational win in Abu Dhabi on day five, taking 6-43 as Pakistan were skittled out for only 114 to lose by 21 runs.

Chandimal's side were pilloried after India whitewashed them on home soil and the captain was delighted with their response and is optimistic there is more to come ahead of the second Test in Dubai, which starts on Friday.

Pakistan were playing their first Test following the retirement of two of their greatest batsmen - Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.Arthur said that his team did miss the legendary duo.

"He is a wily old fox and I have to say Rangana is a team man and an asset to the team", Chandimal said.

"I knew he will give everything he's got. He might give us another year, but let's see", Gurusinha said of Herath, who will turn 40 in March next year.

"We had a nice long chat with Niroshan in Colombo". We wanted him to score those big runs as he is very capable of doing it. "He is showing maturity", mentioned the Sri Lanka team manager.

"Look, it is a trend and I can't sit here and say that our batting line up is a young line up because this is worldwide cricket".

It is a very well known fact that the Sri Lanka team were in dire straits prior to the commencement of this series.

Asked what was the turning point, Gurusinha said: "It is hard to pinpoint exactly where it started to go right, but the pre-tour five-day program which we put together went on very well".

"I have no idea how long he is going to play, but I am sure he will do what he can for the team. We spoke to the players individually and things are clicking", Gurusinha concluded.
